Today Instagram has more than 1 billion active users and is one of the most popular social media platforms globally. As its users are increasing every day, this platform tries to add new features to satisfy users. If you have been an Instagram user for a while, you are probably familiar with sending disappearing photos on DMs. In this article, we’ll talk about recovering expired photos on Instagram and show you all the tricks about it.

If you are looking for a tool to manage, schedule posts, and send DMs on Instagram from a desktop, AiGrow is what you need.

What are expired photos on Instagram?

Expired photos on Instagram are pictures you have sent to your friends through Instagram DM. After they open the picture, they can’t see it anymore so, it expires.

How to send disappearing photos?

You can find disappearing photos on group or individual chats. After they see the photo, they are not able to see it again. Here is how to send one:

  • Open your DM inbox from the home feed and choose a chat.
  • Tap on the blue camera icon from the left bottom corner.
  • Choose a photo( or take one) and tap send.

After you send a disappearing photo to someone, you’ll see the status of the message:  Delivered, Opened, Replayed, Screenshot as part of your conversation in Direct.

Can you see expired photos on Instagram?

In the newest Instagram update, you can replay an expired photo or video right after you received it.

Note: The sender will be notified with a status saying you have replayed the photo.

Unfortunately, you can not see the expired photos on Instagram you have sent.

How to see expired Instagram stories?

Since 2016, you can share photos and short videos that expire after 24 hours on Instagram. If you want to keep your stories longer, you can highlight them on your profile. Here is how to do it:

  • Open the story you have shared from your home feed.
  • At the bottom right of your screen tap Highlight.
  • Create a highlight, set the name, and tap Done.

If you forget to highlight a post you want, don’t worry. You can find all the photos and videos you have shared on the stories in your archive. To access your archive, follow these steps:

  • Log into your Instagram account and go to your profile.
  • Tap the three-dot icon at the top right corner.
  • Select Archive.
  • Here you can see all the stories you have shared sorted by date. You can highlight each one you like or re-share them.
